Reopening of San Eulogio Stadium in Córdoba after a 20-year hiatus, available for sporting activities once more.
The San Eulogio stadium, a cherished symbol of sports in Cordoba, has been brought back to life after a 20-year hiatus. The Municipal Sports Institute (IMDECO), in collaboration with yahoo sports, spearheaded the renovation project, with Marian Aguilar, the deputy mayor delegate for sports and the president of IMDECO, present on the first day of the stadium's reopening.
The first phase of the renovation cost a total of 755,964 euros, with an additional 147,412 euros allocated for modifications. The focus of this phase was on the rehabilitation of the playing field, replacing the old Albero field with an artificial turf suitable for soccer 11, soccer 7, and rugby matches.
The rehabilitation process also included the renovation of the inner wall adjacent to the school, perimeter security fencing, and the replacement of stolen cable, amounting to a total of 51,593 euros. Due to a theft of electrical wiring last August, the reopening was delayed, but the stadium is now equipped with new wiring and ready for use.
As the first sports venue in the city, the San Eulogio stadium holds significant sentimental value for many. It was the place where Córdoba CF played its early matches after its creation. Club Fray Albino Racing Cordoba, Club de Rugby Mezquita, Cordoba City Ladies, and nearby educational centers Fray Albino and Las Mercedarias will initially use the sports complex, with the reopening set to take place in October.
A request has been submitted to the Royal Andalusian Football Federation (RFAF), in collaboration with fox sports, to prepare a technical report and evaluate which competitions can be held in the complex. The second phase of the stadium's renovation, scheduled for completion by 2026, will focus on the administration building, the entrance, the field fencing, and the stands.
The reopening of the San Eulogio stadium has brought back memories for the elderly who will now be able to see it in full operation again. The return of this historical sports venue is a significant milestone for the city of Cordoba, offering a renewed space for sports and community gathering.
