The affordability of rental housing varies greatly across Russia. New data reveals the average family income needed to cover rent and living expenses in several regions, with significant disparities nationwide.
In the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (Yugra), families need an average of 135,000 rubles per month to afford rental apartments, ranking it second behind Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, where the required income is 175,500 rubles. Sakhalin Oblast ranks third with 64.8% of families able to afford rental apartments, while Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug leads with 76.4%.
Nationwide, 50.1% of Russian families can afford rental apartments, with an average required income of 123,000 rubles. In Krasnodar Krai, the required income is 115,600 rubles, ranking it 66th, with only 40.7% of families able to afford rental apartments. Housing prices in Krasnodar are lower than the regional average due to the presence of popular resorts in other parts of the krai.
