Gianni Quaranta, a renowned production designer, passed away in Rome at the age of 82. His death was confirmed by ANSA, with his daughter, Guja, providing the news.

Quaranta's career spanned both sides of the Atlantic, working extensively in cinema, advertising, theater, and opera. Born in Italy, he made his mark in the film industry, with his first Oscar nomination coming for the film 'Brother Sun, Sister Moon'.

The location of Quaranta's death was Rome, a city he had worked in alongside Milan, New York, and Los Angeles. His career, which began in the 1970s, saw him work on several films as a production designer and art director between 1972 and 2010. Some of his notable works include 'Fellini Roma', 'Once Upon a Time in America', 'Nuovo Cinema Paradiso', 'The Bear', and 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream'.

Quaranta was nominated for an Oscar not just once, but twice more: in 1972 for 'La Traviata' and in 1983 for 'A Room with a View', directed by James Ivory. It was for this film that Quaranta won his much-deserved Oscar. Ivory recruited Quaranta for his team when he arrived in Italy to shoot his period drama.

Quaranta's success continued with another Oscar win for 'Farinelli - Voice of His Master', a testament to his exceptional talent in the field of production design. His work in this area was truly remarkable, earning him a place among the greats in the industry.

Quaranta's contributions to cinema will undoubtedly be missed, but his legacy will live on through the films he worked on and the impact he had on the industry. His daughter, Guja, can be proud to have had such a talented and accomplished father.
