Renowned pianist Ilya Shmukler, fresh from his success at the Concours Geza Anda Competition, set to debut in Kansas City, marking his first concert since the summer triumph.
Ilya Shmukler, the acclaimed Russian pianist and winner of the Concours Geza Anda Piano Competition, will be performing in Kansas City as part of the 2024-25 classical music season. The concert, scheduled for October 5, 2024, at the 1900 Building in Mission Woods, Kan., will mark Shmukler's first performance in Kansas City since his Zurich victory.
Shmukler, a graduate student at Park University's International Center for Music (ICM), has been studying under the tutelage of Stanislav Ioudenitch since 2019. His repertoire for the October 5 concert includes "Piano Sonata in A major, D. 664" by Franz Schubert, "Funérailles, S. 173/7," by Franz Liszt, "Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2" (known as the "Moonlight Sonata), and "Symphonic Études, Op. 13" by Robert Schumann. Tickets for the concert can be purchased through Eventbrite. The price for general public tickets is $30, and students can purchase tickets for $10. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
While specific details for Shmukler's future performances in the 2025-26 season have yet to be announced, the ICM's website also reveals a recital by students in Stanislav Ioudenitch's piano studio on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the 1900 Building.
Shmukler's impressive piano career includes numerous international wins, such as the Wideman International Piano Competition, the Lewisville Lake Symphony International Competition, the Artist Presentation Society competition, and the Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition. He has also participated in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition twice, advancing to the quarterfinal round in 2017 and being one of six finalists in 2022, where he also earned a prize for "Best Performance of a Mozart Concerto."
Ilya Shmukler, a native of Tomilino, Russia, is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in performance from Park University and also holds a master's degree from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. He earned a graduate certificate in music performance in 2021 and a graduate artist's diploma in music performance in 2023 from Park University.
