At the 78th International Film Festival Locarno, held in the picturesque town of Locarno, Switzerland, German-related films made a significant impact, securing several prestigious awards.
The German/Austrian co-production, White Snail, directed by Elsa Kremser and Levin Peter, was a standout success. The film won the Special Jury Prize and also secured the Best Acting Award for Marya Imbro and Mikhail Senkov.
Another notable winner was the German-Georgian co-production, Dry Leaf, directed by Alexandre Koberidze. This film received a Special Mention and won the International Film Critics' Prize (Fipresci).
Despite not winning the festival's top prize, the Golden Leopard, German contributions were prominent in key awards. The Golden Leopard was awarded to the Japanese film, Two Seasons, Two Strangers by Sho Miyake.

Iraqi director Abbas Fahdel was honoured for his documentary "Tales of the Wounded Land" at the festival. Manuela Martelli from Chile and Ana Marija Veselic from Croatia also won acting prizes in the feature film "God Will Not Help."
