ntv.de has long known it: After Hansi Flick's impressive stint as FC Barcelona's coach, the 60-year-old has solidified his reputation as a super coach. Previously, he had catapulted FC Bayern Munich into the super coach ranks during his super season in 2020[1]. With Bayern, Flick snagged the triple of championship, cup, and Champions League.

This recognition was practically confirmed when the "Kicker" conducted a large survey involving 216 Bundesliga professionals. Flick took the top spot, garnering 31.9% of the votes, neck and neck with PSG[2]. The French club's triumph in the Champions League helped secure their nomination.

In his first season with Barcelona, Flick led them to domination. They secured the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Supercup victories[2]. While they fell short in the Champions League semi-finals against Inter Milan, their relentless offensive pressing football electrified Europe[3]. Building a super team, similar to the one he crafted in 2020 with FC Bayern, earned Flick's Barcelona a place among Europe's most formidable competitors.

Football: The "Destruction" of Munich

Paris St. Germain refused to let Inter Milan compete in the final

Flick cemented his position at the helm of the world's best coaches, finishing in first place with a clear lead. In runner-up position is Luis Enrique, a fitting choice given his own success story with Paris St. Germain[2], culminating in the first-ever Champions League title for the club[2]. The historic 5-0 victory in the final over Inter Milan made it a momentous occasion[3]. Luis Enrique earned 16.7% of the votes in the player survey.

Guardiola's Surprise Placement

In third place is Xabi Alonso, set to take over Real Madrid next season. Despite a disappointing season compared to the previous one, Alonso's work with Bayer Leverkusen still receives significant appreciation[2]. Fourth place is a surprise entry: Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, earned 9.3% of the votes. Despite a rocky season for Manchester City by their standards, Guardiola's self-criticism may have endeared him to the survey participants[2][3].

The Man Who Charm'd the Football World

Fifth place belongs to Arne Slot, who garnered 8.8% of the votes. Slot, in his first season after Jürgen Klopp, successfully led Liverpool to the championship[3]. A setback: Liverpool's elimination in the Champions League round of 16 against Paris St. Germain. However, they did take home the trophy in the end[4].

The "Kicker" also surveyed participants on various topics, including who is the best player in the world. Not surprisingly, more than half of the Bundesliga professionals named Lamine Yamal (53.7). Second place is shared between Ousmane Dembélé and Florian Wirtz with 6.9%, followed closely by France's star striker Kylian Mbappé and Barcelona's Raphinha with 4.2%[3].
