In a bid to restore the visual appeal of Chattogram and ensure a cleaner, more orderly urban environment, the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor, Dr Shahadat Hossain, has launched a citywide drive to remove illegal banners and posters[1][2].

The drive, announced on August 13, involves not only the removal of unauthorized advertising materials but also the implementation of stricter regulations for outdoor advertisements in the future to prevent recurrence[1]. Mobile courts will be deployed to take immediate legal action against offenders who violate the rules[1].

The CCC Mayor has urged his party members to refrain from putting up such displays, and the acting chairman of the party, Tarique Rahman, has instructed that the practice of putting up unauthorized banners and posters must stop[1]. This initiative aligns with the goal of building a "clean and liveable Chattogram through unity, not political division" as stated by Mayor Shahadat[1].

Mayor Shahadat has expressed concern over the damage caused to city roads and bridges by heavy vehicles and has promised necessary steps to address this issue[1]. He joined students in the city's Chawkbazar area to take down unauthorized political and commercial displays[1]. The mayor considered the students' involvement in the drive as positive and exemplary[1].

Under the new rules, advertisements will only be allowed on city corporation-approved digital billboards[1]. This drive reflects the ongoing effort of CCC to improve urban management in Chattogram[1][2].

This initiative by Mayor Shahadat aimed at cleaning up Chattogram's cityscape and enforcing stricter regulations for outdoor advertisements also extends to the realm of politics, as he requested his party members to refrain from putting up unauthorized banners and posters. The joint effort to remove such displays is a step towards building a "clean and livable Chattogram through unity, not political division," as Mayor Shahadat stated.
