Reminded of forthcoming United Russia existence
In a historic victory, all candidates from United Russia running for governor positions won in the first round of the 2025 elections, marking a significant shift in regional politics.
The party, which experienced a substantial increase in support, saw 304 candidates secure mandates in 2024, compared to the previous year. This surge in popularity was particularly evident in challenging regions such as Komi, Kostroma, Kurgan, Novosibirsk, and Chelyabinsk Oblasts, as well as administrative centers like Ivanovo, Izhevsk, Kostroma, Tambov, and Tomsk.
United Russia's success can be attributed to the full support they received from State Duma deputies, senators, and public figures, as well as the local party members. In Komi, for instance, the party won 25 out of 30 mandates, a rout of the opposition that underscores the need to justify the trust placed in them.
One of the key figures in this triumph is Alexei Rojkov, a deputy of the Chelyabinsk Legislative Assembly, who campaigned in uniform to "not blur the image." Mr. Rojkov views military uniform as a factor of "additional responsibility" to oneself and voters, representing everyone who is currently at the front.
Stanislav Kochev, a Hero of Russia and newly elected State Council deputy of Komi, echoed this sentiment. He stated that fighters have no right to "let down our leadership" and "our president." Mr. Kochev explained that in politics, "order is the will of the voters," and the main focus should be on addressing the people's problems and finding solutions.
The party's success in engaging veterans of the special operation in politics has resulted in a significant increase in their numbers among deputies at various levels this year. Boris Gryzlov, Chairman of the Supreme Council of United Russia, emphasized the importance of the party working as a united team.
Looking forward, United Russia aims to secure an absolute majority (over 50% of seats) in the next State Duma. The task for the following year is to conduct the 2026 campaign as efficiently as possible, utilizing the best practices of the past two years.
Despite the absence of mentions of Grigory Lebed in the text, the impact of United Russia's success cannot be understated. The party's list results in regional parliament elections showed a significant increase, surpassing the historical 55% barrier (60.5% vs. 47.6% in 2020), signifying a strong mandate from the Russian people.
