Unanticipated presence at the formal dinner event - Remarkable Turnout at the Gala Evening Event

Get a load of this! The Stockholm Royal Palace was heating up as the city welcomed Iceland's President Halla Tómasdóttir for a traditional Gala Dinner. But the real showstopper? A surprise visit from Princess Madeleine (42) and her hubby, Chris O'Neill (50)!

The Presidential couple was reminded of their VIP status, all dressed up with orders and grins, planting themselves at Gallery Karl XI in the ballroom. Halla Tómasdóttir, who received the Royal Seraphim Order in her chic white sequined dress, and her man, Björn Skúlason, flashing the Royal Order of the North Star, followed state visit tradition.

Madeleine & Chris' Stealthy Game

According to Swedish tabloid, Aftonbladet, the royals kept their cool during the state visit. Madeleine and Chris avoided the limelight, skipping the official photo session and the events listed in the royal calendar for that day. To many, their sudden appearance at the Gala Dinner was a refreshing surprise!

Royals Go Green Fashion Forward

The evening's theme revolved around sustainability and addressing climate issues. Queen Silvia and the princesses gave a nod to this, recycling gowns from the royal wardrobe.

Queen Silvia shone in her reused fuchsia-colored dress, showing off her sneakers and walking stick every now and then. She donned the distinctive "Nine-Pointed Tiara", named for its fan-shaped pattern and bling, which once belonged to Sophia of Nassau (1836-1913).

Crown Princess Victoria draped herself in a floral appliqué dress by Frida Jonsvens, a reappearance from the celebration of Norwegian Princess Ingrid Alexandra's 18th birthday. Victoria's headpiece of choice was the "Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara", featuring five oval aquamarines. The tiara, originally belonging to Princess Margaret of Connaught (1882-1920), holds a historic connection with the royal family, now in King Carl Gustaf's (79) possession.

Princess Madeleine drew attention with her 2019 Nobel Prize dress by Angel Sanchez, wearing the controversial "Rubindiadem" from 1905, a diadem Passed down through generations of the royal family. The diadem, comprised of diamonds and rubies, stirs controversy due to royal family disagreements over ownership.

Historic Table Setting & Delectable Menu

As seen in a royal house clip, the Gala Dinner unfolded at a long table bedecked with historically valuable items: Brazilian Service silverware, Kosta glassware, and an assortment of plates from the 1850s and 1990s. The imaginative menu included lightly smoked rainbow trout, stuffed chicken, and a dessert of rhubarb and burnt butter cake. In his speech to the President, the King referenced the Icelandic poem "Havamal", expressing a sentiment of camaraderie and gift exchange. The Gala Dinner marked the conclusion of the first day of the state visit. The events continue with visits to prestigious institutions such as the Karolinska Institute and KTH.
