Remains potentially identified as belonging to Travis Decker, according to Washington authorities, as announced by the local sheriff's office.
In a significant development, the Chelan County Sheriff's Office has announced the potential discovery of human remains believed to be those of Travis Decker, an Army veteran and a man accused of murdering his three young daughters.
The remains were found in a remote wooded area south of Leavenworth, Washington state, on Grindstone Mountain, off Icicle Road. The search for Decker was led by the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force, with the assistance of the Chelan County Sheriff's Office, Washington State Patrol, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Forrest Service, Spokane County Sheriff's Office, and the FBI.
Drones and cadaver dogs were instrumental in locating the remains, which were found a few miles away from where Decker's three daughters were discovered dead earlier this year. Clothing found near the remains is similar to what Decker was wearing when he went on the run.
Officials have not yet confirmed the positive identification of the remains, but preliminary findings suggest they belong to Decker. There is no available information regarding the current status of the DNA analysis to confirm the affiliation of the found bones to Decker.
Travis Decker, who has been on the run for months, was accused of murdering his three daughters in early June when he failed to return them for a scheduled visitation. The children's deaths were ruled homicides.
The search for Decker involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, due to the gravity of the case and the public concern it sparked. The discovery of the remains, while not yet confirmed, brings a glimmer of closure to the tragic case.
The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
