Two Bangladeshi men, Shafiqul Islam (45) and Selim (35), were tragically found dead in the Padma River near the Masudpur border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj on Saturday afternoon.

The bodies were discovered around 2:30 pm, approximately 2.5 km inside Bangladesh territory from border pillar 4/2-S. Members of the Masudpur Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp recovered the bodies, which bore signs of brutal torture, including acid burns and deep cuts from sharp weapons.

According to local accounts, the two men had crossed into India last Thursday to bring back cattle and had been missing since then. Samir Uddin, a member of Ward-8 of Manaksha Union Parishad, provided this information.

The discovery was confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Fahad Mahmud Rinku, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh's (BGB) 53rd Battalion. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding the cause of death. The BGB has not confirmed that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) was involved in the men's deaths or torture.

Locals, however, have accused the Indian BSF personnel of being responsible for the torture and deaths. They claimed that the Indian BSF had changed their methods to disguise the killings, dumping the bodies into the river after confirming death.

As of now, no further action has been taken by the police, and no additional investigation findings or cause of death details have been published. The suspected cause of death, being torture by Indian BSF, remains an allegation pending further official investigation and forensic confirmation.

War and conflicts along the India-Bangladesh border continue to raise concerns, with politics and general news outlets frequently reporting on the incidents. In the latest development, the bodies of two Bangladeshi men were found in the Padma River, bearing signs of torture and acid burns, surmised to have been the victims of crime and justice issues near the Masudpur border.
