Remains of two individuals discovered in the search for missing elk hunters in the vicinity of Colorado-New Mexico border
In the San Juan Wilderness Area west of Trujillo Meadows Reservoir, a major search operation is underway for two missing elk hunters, Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko. The hunters, both 25 years old, were reported missing near the New Mexico-Colorado border.
Last Saturday, investigators found the hunters' vehicle at the Rio De Los Pinos Trail Head. Two unidentified bodies were discovered 2 miles from the trail head on the same day. Despite ongoing efforts, these bodies have not been publicly identified, as the investigation is still in progress and next-of-kin have yet to be notified.
The Conejos County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation, with assistance from multiple county and state teams, including dog teams, drone teams, and volunteer teams from various states, such as Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Wyoming.
The hunters were scheduled to check in with their loved ones at a previously agreed upon time, but failed to do so. This, combined with the discovery of their camping gear and backpacks in the vehicle, has raised concerns among authorities due to the heavy rain and bad weather in the area.
The Trujillo Meadows Reservoir, a 69-acre wildlife area located in the Conejos Region, according to the U.S. Forest Service, serves as a backdrop to the search.
As the investigation continues, the community hopes for a positive outcome in the search for Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
