Guwahati News Update: Heartwrenching Discovery in Meghalaya

In the midst of aforementioned inclement weather, authorities in Meghalaya have uncovered a grim truth following an intense eight-day search operation - the body of Raja Raghuvanshi, one of two tourists missing since May 23rd. This chilling discovery was made by a drone, with the deceased found in a deep gorge below the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang.

As of yet, the whereabouts of Raja's wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, remain shrouded in mystery. The ongoing search continues, albeit in challenging terrain.

As per East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, at 11:48 am, a police drone spotted the body during a coordinated effort that saw the involvement of the Police Department, State Disaster Response Force, Special Operations Team, and the West Jaintia Hills District Adventure Mountaineering Club.

Due to the rugged and inhospitable terrain, retrieval and removal of the body proved difficult but was eventually accomplished.

The man was identified through a distinctive tattoo on his right hand, bearing the name "Raja."

Executive Magistrate Adiel R. Kyntan, along with independent local witnesses, conducted a magisterial inquest on-site. Items discovered at the scene included a woman's white shirt, a strip of Pentra 40 medication, a piece of an LCD screen from a Vivo mobile phone, and a smartwatch that was located on the man's wrist. The body has been transported to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, for a postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.

Currently, the police are not ruling out foul play and are treating the case as a suspected murder. A Special Investigation Team has been established to lead the investigation.

In related news, sources suggest that Raja and Sonam were on their honeymoon in Meghalaya, having checked out from Shipara Homestay in Nongriat on May 23rd. Reports indicate that Raja was murdered with a machete, and the police have recovered the suspected murder weapon, along with the victim's mobile phone, from the crime scene [1][3]. Furthermore, Raja's family has accused local hotel staff, tourist guides, and scooter rental operators of suspicious involvement, demanding a CBI probe and Army assistance in the ongoing search for Sonam [4][5].
