School No. 59 in Kursk experienced an unexpected incident when fragments of a drone landed within its stadium. Sergei Koltiarov, the acting head of Kursk city, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the special services quickly removed the debris. Thankfully, the summer school camp continued operations as usual.

The Ministry of Defense revealed that 102 drones were shot down over 12 Russian regions overnight, with two downed in the Kursk region.

While investigating the incident further, it's interesting to note that such occurrences involving drones aren't unheard of in the region. Recently, drone debris was found near a physical education complex in Tula, where various sports activities are carried out. Similar incidents have taken place across the Eastern European landscape, most notably in Ukraine.

Ukraine has witnessed a series of drone attacks, with civilians being the primary targets. Kherson, for instance, experienced drone attacks between May 1 and December 16, 2024, resulting in at least 30 civilian deaths and more than 480 injuries[1]. Unfortunately, these attacks targeted everyday civilians who were simply walking or cycling.

In June 2025, Kharkiv faced drone attacks that targeted residential districts, educational facilities, kindergartens, and other civilian infrastructure[2]. However, no specific incidents arose where drones fell near schools.

Russia carried out a large-scale drone and missile attack on Ukraine on June 10, 2025, causing three deaths and thirteen injuries, though primarily affecting various civilian areas[3][4].

Ukraine retaliated by conducting a drone attack on Russian air bases on June 1, 2025, which led to a considerable Russian response involving hundreds of drones targeting Ukrainian cities[4].

The repeated use of drones in attacks on civilian areas underscores the vulnerability of such targets and the humanitarian impact of such attacks. The strategic shift towards covert and unpredictable tactics employed by both sides in this ongoing conflict complicates military operations while creating widespread fear among civilians, affecting their daily lives and psychological well-being. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation.
