Remaining contest upcoming, tennis match featuring Zverev in Cincinnati delayed.
Alexander Zverev Advances to the Fourth Round of the Cincinnati Masters
Alexander Zverev is one step closer to the round of 16 at the Cincinnati Masters after a thrilling victory over Brandon Nakashima. The match, which was suspended due to a heavy storm and lightning on Tuesday night, resumed on Wednesday.
Zverev, leading 6-4, 5-4, was just one game away from victory when play was halted. Upon resumption, the German tennis star quickly recovered from an early deficit on his serve and closed out the match 6-4, 6-4.
The suspension occurred at 9:03 p.m. Tuesday due to lightning and heavy rain. The match was previously paused for about 15 minutes at the start of the second set due to the storm. The stadium was evacuated during the delay.
In the early stages of the second set, Nakashima approached the net for the first time in the match at 4:4, but soon found himself a break down. Zverev saved three consecutive break points at 2:3 and secured the second set with a courageous approach and an ace on his second serve.
After the rain pause, Zverev saved another break point and went on to break Nakashima, leading 5:4. The American player fought hard to stay in the match, but Zverev's superior play was too much to handle.
This victory extends Zverev’s perfect 5-0 head-to-head record against Nakashima. The German star is set to face Karen Khachanov in the fourth round, seeking to avenge a recent semi-final loss in Toronto last week, where Zverev had a match point but ultimately lost.
The Cincinnati Masters, a tennis tournament with a total prize money of around $9.2 million (around €7.9 million), continues to showcase some of the best tennis players in the world. Zverev's performance so far has been impressive, and he aims to continue his winning streak as he moves forward in the tournament.
