Saturday night's got some history in store!
For the first time ever, a landmark Broadway production will be aired live on CNN and CNN International. The play, "Good Night, and Good Luck," stars George Clooney as Edward R. Murrow, a reputed CBS journalist squaring off against the anti-communist witch hunts of the 1950s. The show is inspired by the 2005 movie of the same name.

During an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper, Clooney drew a parallel between the McCarthy-era and the current political climate.
"Even though McCarthyism wasn't as omnipresent as it is today, the anxiety that seeps through law firms and universities is palpable," Clooney remarked. During the McCarthy era, the senator used fear of communist infiltration to label political enemies as communists or sympathizers, wrecking many lives and careers.
Clooney emphasized, "‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ serves as a reminder of our survival of trying times as a nation. We manage to find our better selves along the way - it just takes time."
Glenn Fleshler, playing Murrow's producer Fred Friendly in the play, spoke to CNN about the times. "It's crucial to recognize that people's livelihoods were altered significantly by this period. Careers were dashed abruptly, which breeds profound fear," he explained.
When asked about ongoing efforts to suppress news organizations by President Donald Trump, Clooney acknowledged, "It's a challenging time for journalists, but I believe Trumpism is bound to lose its appeal and power eventually."
There will be extensive live coverage starting 6:30 p.m. ET Saturday at the Winter Garden Theatre on CNN, featuring special guests associated with the Broadway production. The much-anticipated live airing of "Good Night, and Good Luck" will simulcast on CNN and CNN International, and stream live on CNN.com/GoodNightGoodLuck without a cable login, as well as on various connected TVs and mobile apps, starting at 7 p.m. It'll also stream live on Max across all subscription plans.
Besides the play, Anderson Cooper will conduct a post-show discussion on the state of journalism today.
The Tony Award-nominated "Good Night, and Good Luck" serves as a unique opportunity to engage in conversations about democracy, media freedom, and political accountability, while simultaneously revealing the historical and contemporary relevance of the play's themes. Overall, the live broadcast on CNN marks a historic moment in storytelling, showcasing the integrity of journalism against power more than ever.
