Berlin Swimmer Isabel Gose Aims for Medals in 800m Freestyle Final at Singapore World Swimming Championships

Isabel Gose, a 23-year-old swimmer from Berlin, Germany, has qualified for the final of the 800m freestyle at the Singapore World Swimming Championships. After a heat time of 8:20.21 minutes, Gose will compete against some of the world's top swimmers in the event.

Gose has been training with national coach Bernd Berkhahn in Magdeburg for years, and her preparations for the competition have been slightly altered to avoid the hustle and bustle in the World Aquatics Championships Arena. In the lead-up to the race, she found distraction and fun with her team helpful in getting back on track.

The 800m freestyle final promises to be a thrilling contest, with Isabel Gose facing off against Katie Ledecky (USA) and Summer McIntosh (Canada). Ledecky, the current world record holder (8:04.12) and the reigning world champion and Olympic champion in the 800m free, is widely regarded as the preeminent competitor in this race. McIntosh, considered Ledecky’s strongest challenger, has been in career-best form in 2025, breaking the 400m freestyle world record recently and winning gold at the World Championships.

Gose, who earned silver in the 800m free at the World Championships last year, is among the top contenders but still behind the dominant Ledecky and McIntosh. Other notable competitors in related freestyle events include China's Li Bingjie, who secured silver in the 400m free, and Germany’s Lena Werner. However, for the 800m free, the clear main rivals to Gose are Ledecky and McIntosh.

In addition to Ledecky and McIntosh, Gose will swim against Olympic champions Katie Ledecky (USA), Summer McIntosh (Canada), Lani Pallister (Australia), and the reigning champion Simona Quadarella from Italy in the final. The final for the 800m freestyle is scheduled for 14:21 CET.

Before her success in the pool, Gose competed in open water for the first time at the World Championships, winning gold in a relay event with Florian Wellbrock, Oliver Klemet, and Celine Rieder. Despite a brief struggle and early exit in a previous event, Gose has shown resilience and determination to bounce back.

As the Singapore World Swimming Championships approach, Isabel Gose is focused on giving her best performance and has not required sports psychological help. She is confident and determined to make her mark in the pool and has a chance to win a medal in the event.
