Demi Vollering Overcomes Crash to Focus on GC Battle in Tour de France Femmes

Demi Vollering, the leader of FDJ-SUEZ, finished Stage 4 of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift unscathed, despite the lingering effects of a hard crash during Stage 3.

Just hours before the start of Stage 4, Vollering cleared a second concussion protocol, raising doubts about her participation in the race. However, she demonstrated her resilience and determination, taking to the starting line and completing the stage without incident.

The peloton was tense at times during Stage 4, especially when crosswinds split the group and riders scrambled to hold position. Vollering's team kept her well protected near the front, ensuring her safety and position in the race.

Monday's crash brought back difficult memories for Vollering, recalling a similar fall in the 2021 Tour de France Femmes that she lost by just four seconds. Despite the setbacks, Vollering retained her position in the General Classification as the 5km safety zone was in effect for Stage 4.

Post-crash, Vollering reported having pain in her neck in the morning of Stage 4, but she felt better on the bike. No headache was reported after her ride. Vollering underwent an initial medical evaluation the evening after her crash, with further assessments scheduled for the following morning.

Vollering admitted that a crash like that always affects her mentally, but she seems to be regaining her confidence. With the mountains looming at the end of the week, Vollering is now focusing on the upcoming battle in the GC.

The GC battle is about to ignite at the end of the week, and Vollering's composure seems to have been restored following Monday's crash. She expressed her eagerness for the upcoming battle in the General Classification, determined to make up for the losses incurred during her crashes.

The mountains will be a significant challenge in the upcoming stages of the Tour de France Femmes. Vollering's performance in these stages will be crucial in determining her final position in the General Classification.
