Heavy Storm and House Fire in Ploeuc-L'Hermitage, Côtes-d'Armor
A house in the small town of Ploeuc-L'Hermitage, Côtes-d'Armor, was severely damaged by a fire on the afternoon of August 19. The cause of the fire remains uncertain, as there is no available information confirming it as a lightning-induced incident.
David Eloy, the victim of the fire, initially thought his glass bay window was exploding before he discovered the fire. The storm preceding the fire was violent, with torrential rain immobilizing cars on a parking lot in nearby Loudéac, and motorists on a highway forced to stop on the emergency lane due to the storm.
The storm disrupted traffic in Loudéac, and the rain was equivalent to two months of precipitation in just 24 hours. Four departments in the South of the country were also placed on orange alert due to the storms and strong winds.
David Eloy quickly advised his wife to close everything when he saw the fire. The tenants of the house remain very shocked by the incident. Tragically, David Eloy lost personal items including photos of his children, important papers for his future, and retirement documents in the fire.
At present, no further information about the extent of damage or the status of the residents is available. The authorities are working to gather more details about the incident.
