Emily, portrayed by comedian Rosie Jones, is anything but an ordinary drug dealer - she's a snarky, witty, cerebral palsy-afflicted, pink tricycle-riding woman, carrying her stash in a flowery backpack. In the upcoming comedy Pushers, Emily finds herself drawn into the dark underbelly of the drug world when she bumps into her old school pal Ewen, who, exploiting her disability, offers her a job delivering packages.
This six-episode show, co-written by Jones and Veep writer Peter Fellows, is Jones's first foray into sitcoms. It's a spin-off from the 2022 Comedy Blap pilot Disability Benefits, which aired on Channel 4 and launched successful series like Stath Sells Flats and We Are Lady Parts.
The first two episodes of Pushers will air on C4 on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 10pm and 10.30pm, with the rest of the series following every Thursday at 10pm. Interestingly, the whole series will also be available as a box set on streaming service Channel 4 on June 19, 2025.
Emily's life takes a turn when her benefits are cut after being made redundant. Desperate for cash, she heads to her local job center to appeal the decision. There, she encounters Ewen, who presents her with a lucrative opportunity: making fast money by delivering a package. Initially, the package contains adult merchandise, but Emily soon discovers it's actually filled with cocaine after accidentally opening one of Ewen's parcels. Realizing her disability allows her to escape police attention, Ewen pulls Emily deeper into the drug dealing business. With a massive cocaine stash to offload, Emily sets out to recruit a gang of helpers, bringing in her work colleagues Hope and Harry, and Ewen's friend Minibus Masir, among others.
The ragtag organized crime group faces the challenge of maintaining their illicit activities undetected. Starring alongside Jones as Ewen is Ryan McParland, known for his roles in Derry Girls, Halo, Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness, and the 2024 Modigliani biopic, directed by Johnny Depp. Additional cast members include Jon Furlong (Sean, an alcoholic with anger issues), Clive Russell (Emily's dad Craig), Trevor Dwyer-Lynch (Minibus Masir), Lynn Hunter (Ewen's mum Pat), Libby Mai (Emily's work colleague Hope), Rhiannon Clements (Harry), and Ruben Reuter (Jo).
Born in Bridlington, Rosie Jones is a comedian, writer, and actress who uses her cerebral palsy in her stand-up routine. In 2023, she'll go on tour with her show I Can't Tell What She's Saying. Jones started her career as a writer for panel shows before appearing on shows like The Last Leg, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, QI, and Would I Lie To You?. She's also a Purple Light Award winner and has worked as a roving reporter at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games for The Last Leg, and hosted the travel show Trip Hazard: My Great British Adventure. As an actress, Jones has appeared in Casualty, Call the Midwife season 14, and Silent Witness. Surprisingly, she's even penned two children's books and an episode of Netflix's Sex Education.
