Relaxation in the sphere of gastronomy and culture forewarned by Landsberg

As the winter months approach, Gerd Landsberg, the chairman of the German Association of Cities and Municipalities (DST), has emphasised the importance of maintaining the trust of the people to navigate through the season.

In a statement to the Funke media group's Sunday editions, Landsberg urged the federal government, states, and municipalities to present factual arguments for any measures implemented to combat the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. He stressed the necessity of regular communication to keep the public informed about the need for these measures.

Landsberg's comments come as infection numbers in Germany remain high, and contact tracing is not working consistently, according to the DST. In light of these circumstances, he expects Chancellor Angela Merkel and the state premiers to adjust regulations if necessary.

The DST has also warned against easing coronavirus restrictions, particularly in the hospitality and cultural sectors. Landsberg highlighted that closing these facilities significantly reduces 1800 contacts, a crucial step in stopping the spread of the virus.

This year's Christmas will not be like the one in 2019, Landsberg stated. There will be restrictions to reduce people's 1800 contacts, especially in public, to minimise the risk of infection.

The debates in Germany have become more divisive, and the mood is more tense than in the spring. However, Landsberg emphasised the importance of working together to get through these challenging times. He demanded that all levels of government present clear, factual evidence to support any measures they propose.

Despite not making specific public statements about restrictions for Christmas this year in the provided search results, Landsberg has been a vocal advocate for careful and considered approaches to managing the pandemic. His focus remains on protecting the health and safety of the people while maintaining trust and transparency in the decision-making process.
