Reinforced Construction Boosts School and Sports Activities at Ella-Kay Street in Pankow
The district office of Berlin-Mitte, specifically the city development department and urban planning division, have announced plans for a new, sustainably designed building in Prenzlauer Berg. This new facility, located at Ella-Kay-Straße, is set to become a significant building block for sports areas and community in the district.
The new building will adhere to Efficiency Building Level 40 standards, ensuring energy efficiency and resource-saving building technology. Renewable energies such as solar power will be utilised, and the water and energy supply will be organised sustainably. A notable feature will be a green roof, contributing positively to the city's climate.
The institution's primary goal is to create additional capacities and promote social cohesion in the district. The new building is expected to cater to the needs of both school and club sports, with a focus on the reuse of resources for the building and adjacent sports areas.
The sports facility at Ella-Kay-Straße has been in use since 2016, with the natural grass replaced by an artificial turf complete with lighting and irrigation system. Today, it is intensively used by students of the Grundschule am Planetarium and the club SG Rotation Prenzlauer Berg.
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this new development is the commitment to operating the building CO2-neutral. This approach aligns with the district's broader efforts towards environmental sustainability and reducing carbon footprint.
As the project progresses, the community can look forward to a modern, eco-friendly sports facility that will undoubtedly serve as a hub for sports and community activities in Prenzlauer Berg.
