Manchester United Sign Swedish International Midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme

Manchester United Women have made a significant move in the Women's Super League (WSL) by signing Swedish international forward Julia Zigiotti Olme from Bayern Munich. The 27-year-old midfielder has agreed to a two-year deal with United, with an option for one further year.

Zigiotti, who has been watching United in the past couple of years, expressed her happiness about joining the club. She believes that Manchester United's style fits her playing style and is eager to contribute to the team's success.

Zigiotti's first match with Manchester United will be against Leicester City in the Women's Super League, which kicks off on September 7. The Swedish midfielder is no stranger to high-pressure situations, having featured in all four of Sweden's matches at Euro 2025, scoring a goal and assisting in some of them.

Prior to her stint at Bayern, Zigiotti spent two years with Brighton. Her time at Bayern was successful, as she helped the team win the Frauen-Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal last season.

Manchester United have been building momentum in the WSL, with progressively stronger showings domestically and entry into European competitions. Their record wins show a capacity for dominant performances, which set high expectations for their competitive future. The signing of Zigiotti Olme aligns with this trend of investment to build stronger rosters, as clubs like Manchester City have been setting records in transfer spending.

The team, formed in 2018, have quickly risen in English women's football, competing in the FA Women's Super League (WSL). They made their first competitive appearance in August 2018 and have set significant records, including a record 12–0 league win over Aston Villa in their inaugural Championship season. They played their first match at Old Trafford in March 2021 and had their first European match (Champions League qualifier) in October 2023.

With the addition of Zigiotti Olme, Manchester United Women aim to boost their squad quality and compete at higher levels domestically and in Europe, reflecting the club’s ambitions in women's football.
