Napoli Draw Against Udinese: Conte's Side Miss Out on Six-Point Lead

Napoli's push for a fourth Serie A title under Antonio Conte took a minor setback as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Udinese at the Stadio Friuli on Sunday.

The Partenopei, who were aiming to move six points clear at the top of the table, dominated the first half with 11 chances, but failed to capitalise on their opportunities. Scott McTominay broke the deadlock for Napoli in the 37th minute with a powerful header, but Jurgen Ekkelenkamp equalised for Udinese just three minutes later with a long-range swerving strike.

Conte praised Udinese's performance, suggesting that their players will move to big clubs in the future. He also highlighted Lorenzo Lucca for his aerial dominance and threat.

"We struggled with Udinese's physicality and skill," Conte admitted. "They made it difficult for us, and they deserve credit for their performance."

Despite the draw, Conte expressed that he cannot ask his players to do more without risking exhaustion. He also acknowledged that Napoli deserved more than a draw against Udinese.

Napoli extended their unbeaten run to nine matches in Serie A, but they missed the opportunity to move six points clear at the top of the table. Third-placed Atalanta, with 50 points, are close behind Napoli, who currently have 55 points, four clear of Inter, who host Fiorentina on Monday.

This is the first time Napoli have registered consecutive draws in the Italian top-flight since the last two matches of 2023-24 under Francesco Calzona. Conte also expressed that his team's engine could go off the rails and the engine break down if they push too hard.

Despite the draw, Conte remains confident about Napoli's chances in the upcoming 2025-26 season. The club has made key signings like Kevin De Bruyne to maintain their dominance domestically and make a mark in European competitions.

The 2025-26 Serie A season is presumably about to start or has just started, with Conte’s Napoli positioned as favourites to retain the title.
