Emotional Confession: JAMB Fesses Up to 2025 UTME Errors
Registrar of JAMB Weeps, Acknowledging Mistakes in 2025 UTME Scores (Video Recorded)
Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, broke down in tears during a press conference on Wednesday as he admitted that the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) had some errors. He confessed that these slips were due to their "humanness," despite JAMB's best efforts to orchestrate a smooth operation.
In an emotional statement, Prof Oloyede expressed regret and took responsibility for the errors. He stated that candidates affected by technical glitches in the five states of the South East and Lagos would be rescheduled to retake the UTME to rectify the issues.
The mass failure in the 2025 UTME, according to Prof Oloyede, was caused by a systemic failure. He explained that out of the 65 centers in Lagos, 206,610 candidates were affected, while in the Owerri zone comprising 173,387 candidates in the five South Eastern states were affected.
JAMB's acknowledgement of errors in the recently concluded UTME followed a wave of complaints from candidates nationwide. Prof Oloyede admitted that "what should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors." He added, "We set all machineries in order; regardless, there were still errors."
Starting from May 15, 2025, affected candidates will start receiving text messages from the Board with details about their new exam dates and centers. These rescheduled exams are expected to take place on May 16, 17, and potentially 18, at designated centers. JAMB has assured that these rescheduled exams will be conducted under tighter monitoring to maintain the integrity of the examination process.
The public response to the rescheduling has been mixed, with some hailing JAMB's admission as a commendable act, while others have called for the resignation of the JAMB registrar. The controversy surrounding the 2025 UTME continues to spark heated debates, with concerns about the exam system's reliability still unresolved.
