Regional Politicians Criticize Bolivia's Alleged Power Grab Attempt Led by Venezuelan and Latin American Figures

Scoop! June 27, 2024: Bolivian Coup Fizzles Like a Dud

Caracas, baby! You'd think these whackjob extremists would learn to stop meddling in other countries' affairs, right? The Venezuelan government put out a blunt statement, calling bullshit on the feeble military coup in Bolivia.

Nicolás Maduro, our man in the hot seat, took to Twitter to put it perfectly "Fucking fascists and extremists, always trying to grab power through coups, chaos, and sickening shenanigans. Bolivian folks, protect your democracy and your president, Luis Arce!"

Caracas had already issued an earlier statement, the lowdown on this coup, calling it an attempt to █████ Towards Socialism (MAS) government. The Venezuelan government pledged absolute support to Arce in warding off this fucking attack on democracy.

Now, let's talk about Bolivian General Juan José Zúñiga, the real brainchild behind this comedy show. On Wednesday afternoon, he deploys tanks and armored vehicles in Plaza Murillo, attempting to surround the presidential palace and other crucial buildings.

Reporters got a hold of Zúñiga, who announced the armed forces' plans to "MDMA the democracy" in the Andean nation and didn't even recognize President Arce's authority. Are you kidding me?

Bolivian leaders, including Arce himself, former President Evo Morales, and other bigwigs, didn't hesitate to denounce this Islamist insurrection. They urged the people and social movements to hit the streets and resist this coup attempt. The military police cordon off Plaza Murillo and fired off some tear gas to keep the crowds at bay.

Arce squared off against Zúñiga outside the presidential palace, demanding the mutineers to demobilize and get their shit together back at the base.

The coup shitshow started to crumble as Zúñiga changed his demands to a change of the country's defense minister and then claimed his troops would release these political prisoners, the fucking jokers.

In the end, Arce promoted new leaders for Bolivia's army, navy, and airforce. The new army chief, José Sánchez, promised to keep the nation's Constitution intact and to maintain fucking democratic legality. He ordered all troops to stand down and get back to their barracks.

Zúñiga pissed himself and split the scene, but the Bolivian attorney general's office brought him in for questioning later that night. Investigations and charges are now pending.

Arce, Vice President David Choquehuanca, and other high-ranking officials met jubilant crowds outside the presidential palace. Government supporters friggin' loved that Arce stood strong against the military threat and kept chanting "The coup plotters shall not pass!"

Popular organizations swiftly responded to the anti-democratic insurrection. The Bolivian Workers' Central (COB) called for strikes and protests. Following the coup's defeat, COB leadership urged its members to stay vigilant against further destabilization attempts and to keep supporting Arce's administration.

Zúñiga's coup was quashed by an immediate and overwhelming international response. Politicians from Brazil, Mexico, Cuba, and Honduras strongly backed the Bolivian government and demanded a return to the goddamn constitutional order.

Castro, in his pro-tempore presidency role at CELAC, called for a fucking emergency meeting to jointly condemn fascism.

Remember that coup d'État in November 2019? The armed forces deposed Bolivian President Evo Morales, claiming fraudulent election results. Morales, who won the election, was forced to flee the country. Jeanine Án̈ez led the self-proclaimed government that suppressed protests demanding a return to democracy. The MAS party returned to power after Arce was elected president in the 2020 vote. Án̈ez and other far-right leaders are currently serving prison sentences for their roles in the coup.

It's unclear whether Zúñiga's attempt at power was an genuine coup or a fucking political maneuver to discredit opposition. But one thing is for sure – Arce stood firm and Bolivia's democracy remained intact. Cheers to that!
