Delineation Exercise between Federal Territories and Selangor Progressing
SHAH ALAM, May 27 - The process of demarcating the boundaries between Putrajaya and Selangor, as well as between Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, is nearing completion, with the expectations of finalization by the year's end, according to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
He explained that the delineation work in Putrajaya, involving areas such as Sepang and Kuala Langat, is mostly completed. On the other hand, areas around Kuala Lumpur like Ampang, Petaling Jaya, and Subang will require more time due to the complexity of the demarcation process.
Amirudin's comments followed a meeting with a delegation led by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa at Menara Seri Wilayah, Putrajaya, during which Dr Zaliha raised the need for resolving the delineation issue between the two federal territories and Selangor for integrated border enforcement purposes.
At the meeting, the Selangor government requested that 10 percent of an Islamic cemetery land area in Hulu Semenyih, Selangor, owned by the Federal Lands Commissioner (PTP), be made accessible for local residents seeking burial there. This move is aimed at resolving land management issues related to Islamic cemeteries within Selangor residential areas under the administration of the federal government.
Dr Zaliha had earlier mentioned that the opening of a new Islamic cemetery in Hulu Semenyih could cater to the Muslim burial needs in Kuala Lumpur for another 28 years.
Meanwhile, Amirudin added that the proposal to extend the mandatory retirement age from 60 to 65 is still in the preliminary stages, noting that the matter requires further scrutiny. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said proposed the government's consideration of this change earlier.
The boundary demarcation exercise between the federal territories and Selangor is significant for efficient governance, integrated enforcement, and regional planning due to the geographic, economic, and infrastructural integration of these entities. The delineation involves addressing administrative overlaps, jurisdictional authority, historical and legal agreements, economic and social integration, as well as poverty and development disparities.
As efforts continue to finalize border demarcation, there is ongoing collaboration between federal and state agencies to address service delivery and enforcement at administrative borders. Ongoing projects such as the Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) demonstrate continued efforts in developing modern, integrated infrastructure in Selangor that aligns with federal territory objectives. Policy coordination is also a key factor in the delineation process, ensuring that federal, state, and local priorities are aligned.
