Malaysia Police Complete Investigation into Putra Heights Gas Pipe Inferno
SEPANG, May 27 - The Malaysian police have concluded their investigation into the gas pipe inferno that occurred in Putra Heights last month, according to Selangor police chief Commissioner Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.
Commissioner Hussein disclosed this during a press conference today, stating that the police findings will be revealed in tandem with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health's (DOSH) report on the gas pipe sample, which is still forthcoming.
The affected area has been returned to Petronas Gas Bhd for restoration works, the commissioner revealed. The DOSH report is anticipated to be ready by the end of June, at which point both reports will be made available to the public.
When questioned about the cause of the explosion, Commissioner Hussein noted that it remains unclear until DOSH's findings are published. Adverse weather conditions and waterlogged ground conditions delayed extraction works on-site, leading to delays in obtaining the final pipe specimen, which was retrieved on May 8.
The excavator buried at the site has not been recovered yet, as the ground is still being stabilized post pipe extraction. The recovery process will take place at an appropriate time following the completion of other restoration work.
The gas pipeline rupture in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya on April 1 led to a devastating inferno that burned residential areas for hours. The pipe traversed the affected region, causing extensive damage.
