Regional Contest in Pferdsdorf: Youth Red Cross Bad Salzungen Demonstrates Its Capabilities
In the picturesque town of Pferdsdorf, the Youth Red Cross (YRC) Bad Salzungen held its district competition on Saturday. The event, marked by a spirit of camaraderie and dedication, saw three children's groups and two youth groups participating.
The children's groups placements were a testament to the local communities' commitment to the YRC's values. Geisa clinched the first place in age group 1, with Tiefenort coming in second and Vacha taking the third spot. The local community Vacha also provided excellent catering for the event, ensuring everyone was well-fed throughout the day.
Meanwhile, the youth groups demonstrated their prowess in age group 2. The Mountain Rescue Bad Liebenstein emerged victorious, while Vacha secured the second place. These winning groups may represent YRC Bad Salzungen at the state competition next year.
The competition's disciplines were designed to have the greatest possible proximity to real-life situations. At one station, participants had to build a raft from natural materials, emphasising creativity, resourcefulness, and teamwork. Elsewhere, they were put to the test in first aid scenarios, demonstrating their knowledge and quick thinking.
Water rescue colleague Uwe Hahn tested the swimming ability of the participants directly on the Ulster, adding an authentic touch to the competition. The good mood and motivation of the volunteers, praised by board chairman Thorsten Rittner, further contributed to the event's success.
Thorsten Rittner expressed his gratitude towards the district youth leaders Maria Merten and Diana Wiegmann, youth group leaders, parents, and helpers for their contributions to the smooth organization of the competition. Maria Merten, district youth leader, also expressed her gratitude to the makeup artists and actors for making injuries look realistic.
The YRC, an independent youth organisation of the German Red Cross with around 140,000 young members aged 6 to 27, is committed to health, environment, peace, and international understanding throughout Germany. The competition in Pferdsdorf was a shining example of these values in action.
As the dust settles on the competition, the winners prepare for the next challenge, while the rest look forward to next year's event with renewed determination. The YRC Bad Salzungen continues to foster a spirit of service and camaraderie among its members, ready to face whatever challenges come their way.
