Reggaeton Artist Jhayco Detained in Florida on Accusations of Illegally Possessing Illegal Substances
In the world of Latin music, Puerto Rican reggaeton sensation Jhayco (real name Jesús Manuel Nieves Cortés) has made a significant impact with his catchy beats and collaborations with artists like J Balvin, Bad Bunny, and Kali Uchis. However, the latest news surrounding Jhayco is far from the usual celebratory headlines.
On the morning of August 12, 2025, Jhayco was arrested in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on drug possession charges. According to reports, his red Corvette was driving unusually slow and came to a complete stop on SW 8 Street near SW 69 Avenue. Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies detected a strong smell of cannabis and noticed visible white powder on Jhayco's pants and nose[1][2].
During a search of the vehicle, approximately seven grams of cannabis were found in two black pouches, and two grams of suspected cocaine were found in three clear baggies[1][2]. Jhayco was unable to present a driver's license at the scene[1][2]. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and held on a $3,000 bond[2].
Jhayco is charged with possession of cocaine and possession of 20 grams or less of cannabis[1][2][4]. As of now, no further updates on the legal proceedings or statements from Jhayco or his representatives have been publicly released.
The arrest occurred just days before the current date, making it the latest update on the case[1][2][4]. Jhayco's most recent release before the arrest was a single called "Bouncy" with Bryant Myers.
Interestingly, Jhayco's latest album, "Le Clique: Vida Rockstar (X)", was released in September. The album, co-written and co-produced by Jhayco alongside Tainy, Haze, and El Arma Secreta, secured a No. 2 opening on Billboard's Latin Rhythm Albums chart and debuted as Jhayco's third top 10 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart[6].
The arrest was reported by Variety, adding another twist to the life of the rising reggaeton star. Until 2019, Jhayco performed under the stage name Jhay Cortez.
