Regensburg's major sports complex, Sportpark Ost, has officially been unveiled and is now open to the public.
The city of Regensburg is set to unveil its latest addition to the sports landscape with the opening of the Ost Sports Park (OstSportpark) on July 29. The pool will start operations, followed by the athletics training hall on August 4.
This modern sports facility, designed to serve local clubs and the community, boasts a range of sports fields and recreational areas. The indoor pool is open to all citizens, while the athletics training hall caters to athletes from recreational, school, and competitive sports, as well as for various sporting events.
Sustainability is at the heart of the Ost Sports Park's design. Intelligent lighting brings as much daylight as possible into the interior spaces, resulting in direct energy savings. Electricity is generated directly on the hall roofs, and a 20 cubic meter rainwater cistern collects rainwater for irrigating the facade greenery and sports fields.
Moreover, energy for heating is generated 100 percent CO-neutral, stored in a 500 cubic meter buffer storage tank, and supplemented by a wood chip heating system during seasonal peak loads.
Mayor Maltz-Schwarzfischer is particularly pleased about the addition of urgently needed water surfaces for swimming lessons. To give the community a glimpse of the new facilities, an open house day has been scheduled for August 3, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
