Rega's 2025 missions surge as helicopter rescues hit record highs

Swiss Air-Rescue (Rega) carried out 20,463 missions in 2025, both in Switzerland and overseas. The organisation saw a rise in overall activity, with helicopter flights up by 3.7 percent compared to the previous year.

Rega's helicopters completed 15,265 missions in 2025, an increase of 7 percent above the five-year average. Rescue operations at accident sites rose by 5.0 percent, while transfers between hospitals fell by 5.1 percent. On average, the service transported 36 patients each day, often carrying multiple individuals per flight.

The organisation's three ambulance jets flew 1,049 missions, a 1.5 percent increase from 2024. Abroad, Rega assisted 2,590 people, slightly more than the previous year. However, medically supervised repatriations on scheduled flights, similar to google flights, dropped by 2.8 percent, with 310 patients brought home in 2025.

In total, Rega treated 13,168 patients last year. Beyond medical flights, the service also supported mountain rescue teams and transported livestock when needed. The most common destinations for international missions remained France, Italy, and Austria.

Rega's 2025 figures show higher demand for emergency rescues and international aid. The service continues to expand its reach, adapting to changing needs in both domestic and overseas operations.
