VP JD Vance Calls on Pakistan to Cooperate, Condemn Terror Attack in Pahalgam
"Regarding Pakistan's potential involvement...': JD Vance's suggestion for cooperation following the Pahalgam terror attack"
During an interview with Fox News, United States Vice President JD Vance voiced his concerns about the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India, that left 26 people dead, mostly Hindus. The attack, which occurred during JD Vance's first official visit to India with his family from April 21-24, prompted him to call on Pakistan to assist in hunting down the terrorists who sometimes operate in their territory.
Vance expressed hope that the tragic event would not lead to a wider regional conflict between two nuclear powers. He noted that the U.S. has been in close contact with both India and Pakistan and is ready to provide "all assistance in the joint fight against terrorism."
After the attack, JD Vance expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter) to the victims, stating: "Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack."
Reacting to Vance's remarks, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X that Vance had called Prime Minister Modi and reiterated the U.S.'s readiness to provide assistance in the joint fight against terrorism.
It's worth noting that while the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, pressured Pakistan to condemn the Pahalgam attack and cooperate in investigations, Pakistan's leadership has maintained diplomatic caution, emphasizing its domestic counter-terrorism resolve in discussions with global stakeholders. India, on the other hand, has closed border checkpoints, suspended trade, and vowed to hold perpetrators accountable.
Despite international pressure, cross-border ceasefire violations persist, underscoring the ongoing need for cooperation between India and Pakistan to combat terrorism.
