New Abode for the Royal Couple: William and Kate's Relocation - Regal Decision: William and Kate's New Residential Address
Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are set to move to a new residence within the grounds of Windsor Castle. Their new home, Forest Lodge, will serve as their long-term family home where they plan to raise their children outside the walls of a palace.
Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom mansion, underwent a significant £1.5 million renovation in 2001, preserving many period features such as original stonework, plaster cornices, marble fireplaces, Venetian windows, and a vaulted hallway ceiling. Ahead of William and Kate's relocation, planned for late 2025, minor internal and external renovations have been planned and are currently underway. The couple will personally cover the costs of these renovations, estimated to be around 16 million pounds.
The property boasts eight bedrooms and six bathrooms across three floors, a ballroom, and a tennis court. It offers spectacular views, including the Wembley Arch visible from William's bedroom.
William and Kate have opted to live without any live-in staff, aiming for a private family home environment similar to their previous residence, Adelaide Cottage.
The move to Forest Lodge has involved some local impact: two families living in nearby cottages, originally stables of Forest Lodge and rented out by the Crown Estate, were asked to vacate to provide the Wales family with more privacy and control over the neighboring properties.
Financially, the couple is paying rent and renovation costs themselves, so no taxpayer money is involved in this relocation or refurbishing, a contrast to some other royal renovations such as Frogmore Cottage.
The Wales family also has other residences in addition to their new home in Windsor: Kensington Palace in London and Anmer Hall in the eastern English county of Norfolk.
The exact date of the move has not been specified, but the family currently resides in Adelaide Cottage. The reason for the move was not stated in the article.
