Regained drive and self-assurance for Tadej Pogacar after Montreal performance, hints at potential double victory at World Championships

In the world of cycling, Slovenia's Tadej Pogacar has been making waves, and his recent performances in Canada have been no exception. The Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal saw a surprising turn of events when Pogacar, in a generous gesture, attacked with 35km to go and gifted the victory to Brandon McNulty, allowing the American rider to take the win.

Pogacar's legs weren't at their best in the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec, but he found some rhythm as the race progressed. Despite this, Julian Alaphilippe of France took the victory in that race.

Pogacar's dominant performance last year, where he won the road race world title in Zurich with a solo breakaway, is a testament to his formidable skills. As he prepares for the UCI Road World Championships later this week in Rwanda, Uroš Murn, Slovenia's national coach, hopes Pogacar can complete a rare double.

Pogacar's focus remains on peaking for the championships, and he will be competing in both the elite men's time trial on Sunday and the road race on September 28. Remco Evenepoel is identified as Pogacar's biggest rival in the time trial.

Pogacar's form leading up to the Canadian WorldTour races was a concern due to his sickness, but he has expressed his love for racing in Canada and stated that he is in great shape after the races. His teammate, Isaac del Toro from Mexico, poses an internal rivalry for Pogacar within UAE Team Emirates-XRG.

The British national team, Team GB, is also making their way to Rwanda to compete against Pogacar at the 2025 UCI Road World Championships. Tom Pidcock, Giulio Ciccone and Giulio Pellizzari from Italy, Juan Ayuso from Spain, and Julian Alaphilippe from France have all shown form at the Vuelta a España, making for a challenging competition.

The circuits for both races in Rwanda are expected to suit Pogacar, providing a strong foundation for his bid to complete a rare double. As the world of cycling eagerly awaits the UCI Road World Championships, it's clear that Pogacar will be a force to be reckoned with.
