Sticking to Principles: Schellhammer on AfD Collaboration
Lack of Collaboration with the Alternative for Germany Party - Refusal of Collaboration by Schellhammer Towards the AfD Party
In Rhineland-Palatinate, the Greens are firm on their stance against any collaboration with the Alternative for Germany (AfD) - a position that intensifies following the AfD's classification as a secure right-wing extremist organization by the Constitutional Protection (Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz, BfV). Chairwoman and parliamentary business manager of the Green state parliament faction, Pia Schellhammer, emphasizes the importance of concrete action, remarking to the German Press Agency, "The classification by the constitutional protection gives additional backing to parliaments and administration for consistent action."
Steer clear of the AfD: No collaboration, no exceptions
Emphasizing the need for unwavering resolve, Schellhammer demands a complete refusal to cooperate with the AfD, not only in the state parliament but also in municipal councils and the Bundestag. "To protect our democracy, we must consistently exclude the AfD from committee chairs and other representative offices," she warns.
Moreover, at the municipal level, Schellhammer worries about rooms being rented to identified enemies of the constitution. "It must not happen," she reiterates.
Carl-Bernhard von Heusinger, parliamentary business manager, and interior spokesman of the Green faction, urges the state government to scrutinize the continued employment of members of the AfD in the state service. In his opinion, any individual associated with a securely right-wing extremist party should be barred from teaching children in schools, serving as police officers, or representing the state in any capacity.
Swift action against AfD: An urgent call to defend democracy
Calling for an immediate ban procedure against the AfD, Schellhammer urges all democrats to stand up courageously and resolutely in defense of democracy. The AfD, she suggesting, undermines the liberal-democratic basic order, and it is the responsibility of all citizens to resist this threat.
