Refusal of Action Against Refugees with Valid Proof of Registration Cards Halted

In response to the halt in the German entry program for Afghan refugees, the Pakistani government has issued a directive to prevent harassment or detention of registered Afghan refugees holding valid Proof of Registration (PoR) cards. The directive, issued by the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) and Kashmir Affairs, comes after consultations at the federal level regarding the extension of PoR card validity.

The circular, addressed to the Ministry of Interior, all Chief Secretaries, Inspectors General of Police, and the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory, urges these authorities to instruct all relevant departments and agencies to act accordingly regarding the situation of stranded Afghan refugees. The directive was issued on Saturday.

As of now, the PoR cards, which expired on June 30, have not been officially renewed, but there is a proposal to extend their validity by three to six months. The government has directed all departments and agencies to avoid any harassment or adverse action against registered Afghan refugees holding these cards.
