Jan "Monchi" Gorkow, the vocalist of the German punk band Feine Sahne Fischfilet, has expressed a shift in his political views. In an interview with the German Press Agency, Gorkow stated, "I don't see myself as part of the left scene."
Previously, Gorkow was associated with leftist ideologies, but he now identifies as a humanist, distancing himself from rigid political categorizations. Reflecting on his time with the ultras of Hansa Rostock, he noted, "Whether it's with football, or with these scenes, these boxes are always too small for me, and I feel like I don't fit in."
The band Feine Sahne Fischfilet is recognized for its strong stance against right-wing extremism, particularly in their home region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Over the years, they have faced attacks from the right-wing scene for their anti-extremist views and have been classified as left-wing extremist in several constitutional protection reports from the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The musicians have publicly contested this classification.
When asked about the electoral successes of the AfD, Gorkow expressed shock at the party's gains, particularly in his hometown, Jarmen, where the AfD received 54% of the second votes. He found the party's nationalist attitudes intolerable and criticized those who, despite being from urban neighborhoods, try to dictate their opinions to him as a projection surface.
