Robert Redford: A Life in the Spotlight

Robert Redford, the iconic actor known for his rugged good looks and captivating performances, has had a fascinating journey that extends beyond the silver screen.

Born to a milkman father, Redford's humble beginnings contrast sharply with his eventual rise to Hollywood stardom. His dedication to maintaining his youthful appearance was evident, as he took greater care of his face than many of his contemporaries, including Courteney Cox, Salma Hayek, Bethenny Frankel, Ratajkowski, Carmen Electra, and Rihanna. Nightly, he would cream and grease his face, and he even tried to dewrinkle it using ice water.

Despite his celebrity status, Redford was not immune to the pitfalls of fame. He was often late, a trait that caused some inconvenience, as evidenced by his tardiness for the premiere of his movie "The Natural" in LA. This punctuality issue, however, did not seem to affect his successful career.

Redford's interest in politics was tested, but he declined the opportunity, stating that he had no desire for a career in politics. His athletic prowess was evident in his high school days, where he played baseball and shared the same educational institution with Marilyn Monroe. He even held a baseball scholarship at the University of Colorado.

In the realm of real estate, Redford's Fifth Avenue duplex was listed for sale for under $10 million, and he rented his Malibu place for $35,000 a month. He also sold his Connecticut house for $1.3 million.

Redford's professional life was not without controversy. Joan Fontaine, a fellow actress, once referred to him as a "spoiled brat." However, his contributions to the film industry are undeniable. He won a Miss Universe pageant for his looks at a certain point in his career, and his work has been celebrated with the first ever "Made in New York" Awards ceremony, held at Gracie Mansion for the theater and live performance community.

In recent years, Redford expressed a desire to return to the stage, stating that he would like to do something onstage again. As for the Wollman Rink in Central Park, a joint venture between New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Related Companies is in place for its renovation. The exact name of this joint venture is not disclosed, but it is rumored that a not-for-profit entity is favoured over Donald Trump, who renovated the rink in the 1980s.

Tony winner Alex Newell is also making headlines, with rumours of his starring role in another production of "Dreamgirls" on Broadway. As for Redford, his legacy continues to inspire, a testament to a life lived in the spotlight.
