In the upcoming federal election on February 23rd, 2025, 362,000 first-time voters in Bavaria are set to cast their ballots. However, the exact deadline for postal voting in the region remains unclear.

Postal voting documents in Bavaria are expected to be sent out from February 10th and should arrive at voters' homes by mid-February. Voters are encouraged to fill out and send the postal voting documents by post or hand them in personally to the municipality as soon as possible.

The Federal Returning Officer's website and the Bavarian State Election Office are the most reliable sources for up-to-date information on postal vote application deadlines and receipt deadlines for postal ballots.

It's worth noting that the delay in sending postal voting documents is due to the fact that it will not be determined until January 30th which candidates are admitted and will appear on the ballot papers. After the determination of candidates, the municipalities still need to print the ballot papers.

The proportion of young voters aged 18 to 25 is estimated to be around 8.5% this year, a significant decrease from just under 13% in 1990. Conversely, the group of people aged 65 and older is expected to make up 28.7% of voters in the upcoming election, an increase from 19.7% in 1990.

Postal voting is an alternative for people who do not have time on election day, and voting at the polls corresponds to the constitutional principle for elections. Around 30% of postal voters in Bavaria have voted this way in previous elections.

The State Electoral Officer does not expect the proportion of postal voters to increase further in the upcoming federal election. Voting by post directly at the municipality is also an option, where the postal voting documents are picked up, filled out on the spot, and handed back in.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on postal voting deadlines in Bavaria for the 2025 federal election, it's advisable to consult the official Bavarian State Election Office or the Federal Returning Officer’s website.

Voters planning to postally cast their ballots in the upcoming Bavarian election should keep an eye on the deadlines for submitting and receiving their voting documents as they can be found on the Bavarian State Election Office and the Federal Returning Officer's websites. Moreover, while voting by post in politics and policy-and-legislation related matters may capture general-news attention, it's important to note that such information is crucial for first-time voters in the region.
