In a recent development, the prison sentence for Ryan Salame, the former head of the Bahamian division of FTX, has been reduced by one year. This adjustment was announced on the Federal Bureau of Prisons website and is likely due to his cooperation with the prosecution.

Salame, who pleaded guilty to charges related to the collapse of FTX in September 2023, was sentenced to 90 months (7.5 years) in prison by the Southern District of New York court in late May. He began serving his prison sentence in October.

The reduction in Salame's prison sentence is consistent with the cooperation deals that other defendants, such as Caroline Ellison, the former CEO of Alameda Research, FTX's CTO Gary Wang, and the exchange's head of engineering Nishad Singh, have made. Their cooperation with prosecutors led to reduced sentences, as reported in August 2025.

The reasons for the adjustment in Salame's release date have not been disclosed. However, the reduction was granted under Rule 35, which allows a court to reduce a sentence if the defendant provides substantial assistance after sentencing.

It is important to note that this reduction in Salame's prison sentence does not affect the sentence of the former CEO of FTX Digital Markets, who was also sentenced in late May. Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), co-founder and former CEO of FTX, was found guilty on all counts in November 2023 and was sentenced to 25 years in prison in March 2024.

The specific date of the reduction in Salame's prison sentence is not provided in the article. However, the adjustment has changed his original release date from April 2032 to March 2031.

The Bureau of Prisons has listed the new release date for Salame as March 2031. The current sentence and surrender date are subject to further judicial review, but as of August 2025, the reduction by one year is confirmed.

Salame's legal team has appealed the decision, but the outcome of that appeal is yet to be determined.

In light of Salame's cooperation with the prosecution, the prison sentence for his involvement in FTX's collapse was reduced by one year, as reported by the Federal Bureau of Prisons in August 2025. This adjustment follows similar cooperation deals made by other FTX-related defendants, like Caroline Ellison, Gary Wang, and Nishad Singh, as detailed in the New York Times in May 2023.
