Reduced Penalty for Cyril Hanouna's Remarks on C8 Now at Half the Originally Imposed Amount
Council of State Cuts Fine Against Defunct C8 Channel Over Anne Hidalgo Attack
Looks like the audacity of Cyril Hanouna, former host of C8's infamous show "Touche pas à mon poste !" (TPMP), paid off, as the Council of State swooped in to reduce a hefty fine originally imposed on the now-defunct channel. The fine, initially set at a whopping 300,000 euros, was slashed to a more manageable 150,000 euros following an appeal, according to French Press Agency (AFP) reports.
This reduction, however, wasn't without reason. The Council of State, believing the initial fine to be excessive, took into account the "seriousness of the breaches and their characteristics." So what were these breaches, you ask? They occurred in an episode aired on October 5, 2022, when Hanouna issued a slew of insults directed at Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, who was not present. He urged her to "shut her mouth," called her a nighttime rat-chaser, and labeled her and others as a "bunch of idiots."

"Repeated Infractions"
The audiovisual regulator, Arcom, was swift to judge these comments as "likely to harm the mayor of Paris's right to respect for her honor and reputation," as stated in a press release.
C8, a Canal+ group-owned channel, ceased broadcasting in March, following the Arcom's failure to renew its frequency. Its eviction from terrestrial digital television (TNT) was largely due to Hanouna's repeated infractions resulting in a hefty fine of 7.6 million euros. Seems like Hanouna's antics had become more of a liability than an asset for C8.
In September, Hanouna will join the M6 group, bringing his unique brand of commentary to W9 and Fun Radio. But he'll have to be on his best behavior, simply because talent alone isn't going to save him from the industry's wrath.
