"Lilo & Stitch" Stunner: Shattering Records with Jason Momoa and Jack Black

Highly Successful Live-Action Adaptation Breaks Box Office Barriers - Redoing a classic's animated version achieves significant milestones

Folks, get ready for a blockbuster! Fresh on the heels of "Minecraft: The Movie" dominating the box office, Disney's live-action remake of the beloved animated classic "Lilo & Stitch" is poised to take it to the next level, starring none other than Jason Momoa (45) and Jack Black (55).

Even Tom Cruise's (62) "Mission: Impossible" farewell, "The Final Reckoning," didn't stand a chance against the magical energy of "Lilo & Stitch" in its debut. With a lavish $100 million budget, this remake has already minuted that and more, breaking one smash hit record after another...

"Lilo & Stitch's" Impressive Records

According to the Hollywood Reporter, "Lilo & Stitch" had an international opening of a staggering $361.2 million! Within six days, it hit the $400 million mark, a significant leap from the original 2002 film, which only grossed around $273 million worldwide.

"Lilo & Stitch" became the star of Memorial Day weekend, earning $182.6 million, eclipsing the previous record of $160.5 million held by "Top Gun: Maverick." It's currently the second-best opening over a four-day holiday weekend, just behind "Black Panther"'s $242 million.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that it also holds the best opening for a Disney live-action film in Latin America. In the U.S., it ranks third for overall opening weekend earnings, trailing only "The Lion King" (2019) and "Beauty and the Beast" (2017) - but remember, these numbers include the full Memorial Day weekend, not just the first three days. So, "Lilo & Stitch" snaps up the second-best U.S. opening of the year so far, with $146 million, though it's still behind "Minecraft: The Movie."

In the top spot for U.S. openings, "Lilo & Stitch" ranks fifth for movies released on a Monday, following "Black Panther," "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "Spider-Man: No Way Home," and "Avengers: Endgame." On top of that, it's the seventh-best opening for a movie with a "PG" rating, making it a fabulous choice for family movie nights!

I'm not gonna let "Lilo & Stitch" go; it's shattering records in the movies-and-tv category of entertainment. Despite Jason Momoa (45) and Jack Black (55) in Tom Cruise's (62) "Mission: Impossible" farewell, "The Final Reckoning," "Lilo & Stitch" has surpassed these blockbusters in terms of box office earnings.
