Vila Real de Santo António to Open New Skate Park on August 12
The municipality of Vila Real de Santo António is set to open its new Skate Park as part of the Vila Real de Santo António Sports Complex on August 12, 2025, at 6:00 pm. The grand opening ceremony will take place at the Sports Complex and will feature a dance performance by the VRSA Regional Conservatory, followed by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.
Local athletes and guests will lead the first skate laps on the park, marking the official opening. The afternoon event will conclude with a skateboarding lesson hosted by the WallRide Association, aimed at encouraging participation among young and old alike.
Following the skateboarding lesson, the celebrations will move to Jardim da Avenida da República, where the winner of the Youth Participatory Budget project will be announced at 9:45 pm. The Youth Participatory Budget is an initiative aimed at encouraging civic and democratic participation among young people.
From 10:00 pm onward, there will be live music by Papillon, followed by a DJ set to close the event. The Skate Park is designed to accommodate athletes of all experience levels and represents a strategic investment in youth and the promotion of physical activity.
The construction of the new facility began symbolically on August 12, 2024, coinciding with International Youth Day, underscoring its focus on youth and physical activity. The project involved an investment of approximately €93,000 and reinforces the municipality's commitment to creating infrastructure that encourages active and healthy lifestyles.
