Redesigned Opel Frontera: Spacious Interior at an Affordable Price
Can't decide between affordability and ample space? Look no further! The new Opel Frontera is here to shake things up. This family-friendly crossover boasts a spacious interior without breaking the bank.
Upgrading your ride just got easier with Opel's latest addition. The Frontera is designed for those seeking an affordable family SUV with a quality interior. Want to get a little dressier? Opt for the premium package, minus the sky-high price tag!
Priced at €24,000 for the base model, the Frontera neatly slots into Opel's large crossover range, striking the perfect balance between the compact Mokka and the Grandland in terms of size. At 4.39 meters, it’s the perfect fit - larger than the Mokka, but less bulky than the Grandland.
Savings without compromise
Despite cost optimization, the Frontera retains a modern look, both on the outside and inside. Our test car flaunted a two-tone finish, complete with a white roof and white steel wheels, providing a classic off-road aesthetic. The angular silhouette adds an extra touch, making the trunk a cargo-hauler's dream with a whopping 460 to 1,600 liters of cargo space! The flat floor, storage compartment, and low loading height make everyday loading a breeze.
The interior doesn't disappoint either, boasting a clean and user-friendly layout. Personalized touches like vehicle graphics on the center console rubber bands add style without feeling overwhelming. However, a closer look reveals mediocre material and build quality, with hard plastic dominating the doors and dashboard.
Comfortable and capable
The seats are more than adequate, offering a firm feel and good side support. The driving position might be a bit snug for average-sized drivers.
The Frontera's powertrain isn't shabby either. The test car was powered by a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with mild hybrid technology, producing 107 kW/145 PS and over 230 Nm of torque. Paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, performance within the compact car segment is solid. The all-electric drive ensures a lively start and quick response, while maintaining reasonable fuel consumption of around 5 liters in city traffic.
A budget-friendly family vehicle
The Frontera is a solid and mature driver, handling urban road surfaces comfortably while maintaining control on highways. The steering is light for city driving, without feeling artificial. Though not designed for thrill-seekers, the Frontera offers a steady and balanced driving experience.
If budget is a priority, look no further! The base "Edition" model starts at €24,000, with the more feature-packed "GS" variant setting you back €27,400. Though pricier, the "GS" offers a touchscreen display, two-tone paint, and a rearview camera.
Cheap and cheerful
The Frontera offers good value for money, making it a strong contender among compact SUVs. Its closest competition comes from the Dacia Duster and the Citroën C3 Aircross, which share the same corporate platform. The MG ZS is also a close competitor, but its pricier offerings may deter some buyers.
Consider the Frontera if you seek an affordable car with generous space and a large cargo compartment. Though it might not be as refined as its more expensive siblings, the Frontera delivers a strong value proposition for city and short-distance driving. In a nutshell, one doesn't need much more car!
