Redblacks triumph over Argos with Brown's impressive five touchdown throws, resulting in a 46-42 scoreline.

In a high-scoring and closely contested CFL rivalry game, the Ottawa Redblacks secured a thrilling 46-42 victory over the Toronto Argonauts on August 9, 2025. Dru Brown, the Redblacks' quarterback, delivered a standout performance, throwing a career-high five touchdown passes to lead his team to their second straight win.

Brown completed 26 of 31 attempts for 373 yards, demonstrating exceptional passing efficiency throughout the game. His final touchdown came on an 11-yard pass to Justin Hardy with 41 seconds left, capping a crucial 72-yard, nine-play drive. This performance marked Ottawa's second straight win after a four-game losing streak and their first win against an East Division opponent that season.

The first quarter saw the Argonauts take an early lead, with Herslow, Dejon Brissett, and Jordan Williams scoring touchdowns, and Lirim Hajrullahu's 20-yard field goal ending the second quarter, staking Toronto to a 25-19 halftime lead.

However, Ottawa mounted a comeback, outscoring Toronto 18-3 in the third quarter. The Redblacks' touchdown scorers in the game included Justin Hardy (2), Marquise Lewis (2), Dustin Crum, and Bralon Addison. Addison also added a two-point convert.

Toronto's defense and special teams struggled throughout the season, with the Argonauts allowing 4 return TDs on kicks. Despite Lirim Hajrullahu's contributions with three converts, two field goals, and a single, it wasn't enough to secure an early win for the Argonauts.

Coach Ryan Dinwiddie expressed frustration after the game, criticizing some players for talking a big game but not showing up on game day. A key moment in the game came when Dejon Brissett, Toronto's defensive lineman, forced a fumble on Dru Brown's run, which was returned 77 yards by Jordan Williams to give Toronto a 22-1 lead in the first quarter. However, Ottawa's strong defensive stands in critical moments, including a key interception by Robert Priester, helped seal the win.

This victory was noted as the third-largest comeback in Ottawa Redblacks history. Both teams are now gearing up for their next games, with Ottawa visiting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday, while Toronto travels to the Edmonton Elks on Friday.
