Russian Fishermen Nearly Reach Initial Forecast for Pacific Salmon Catch

Russian fishermen are on the verge of reaching the initial forecast for the year's catch of Pacific salmon. According to the latest data, they have already caught over 312,000 tons, a significant increase compared to previous years.

The Pacific salmon catch is dominated by the Kamchatka Krai, which accounts for over 247,200 tons, representing 62% of the total volume. In Sakhalin, the catch volume is 8,270 tons, while in Chukotka, it is 319 tons. The catch volume in Primorsky Krai has seen a significant increase, with over 8,800 tons caught, an increase of 7,270 tons compared to 2023. The organization responsible for managing fisheries in Magadan Oblast is the state Russian research center VNIRO. The Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) has prepared 23 scientific justifications for adjusting the predicted catch volumes to 436,261 tons.

The 10th meeting of the Rosrybolovstvo headquarters discussed a range of issues, including the progress of the salmon fishery, scientific support, regulation of fishing, fisheries inspectorate work, and state assignment of the FGBU "Glavrybvod" for Pacific salmon reproduction. The meeting also touched upon the organization of fishing to ensure the traditional way of life of indigenous small-numbered peoples, but no new catch volumes or locations were mentioned.

From 01.09.2025, a law comes into force that provides for a single period for the renewal of existing fishing contracts without tenders. The territorial management of Rosrybolovstvo is already conducting the corresponding work with users regarding the new law. The organization of fishing to ensure the traditional way of life of indigenous small-numbered peoples in 2026 was discussed, with a deadline for application submission on 01.09.2025.

The article mentions Magadan and Magadan Oblast, but no new catch volumes or locations were mentioned for these regions. It is unclear if the "Magadan News in Telegram" mentioned in the article is a new fact or a reference to a previous fact.

As the Pacific salmon season continues, it will be interesting to see if Russian fishermen can reach and surpass their initial forecast for the year's catch.
