Manchester United Secures Benjamin Sesko in Record-Breaking Deal

Manchester United has completed the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a transfer that could potentially be worth up to €90 million. The Slovenian striker, who was often compared to striker sensation Erling Haaland, becomes the second most expensive sale by RB Leipzig, surpassed only by Josko Gvardiol who was sold to Manchester City in 2023 for a reported €91.5 million.

Sesko, who scored 27 goals and assisted in seven more in his 64 Bundesliga games, joins Manchester United on a five-year contract, running until June 2030. The deal includes a sell-on clause, which entitles RB Leipzig to a percentage of any future transfer fee.

The transfer fee for Sesko is initially valued at €76.5 million, but with performance-related add-ons, the total deal could potentially reach €85 million. These add-ons are structured to be achievable, tied to specific performance metrics likely related to the team's success and Sesko's individual achievements.

The bidding war between Manchester United and Newcastle United is believed to have driven up the purchase price of Sesko. Newcastle United, who will play internationally next season, including in the Champions League, were also interested in the young striker. However, it was Manchester United who secured his signature.

The transfer of Sesko to Manchester United was determined by RB Leipzig to fetch at least €80 million. Marcel Schaefer, the sporting director of RB Leipzig, stated that the economic conditions played a role in the transfer. As part of the agreement, a friendly match between Manchester United and RB Leipzig will be organized in the future.

Sesko, who was successful six times in the Champions League and the DFB-Pokal for RB Leipzig, is expected to strengthen Manchester United's attack and provide a formidable partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo. The 20-year-old striker is eager to make his mark at Old Trafford and help the team challenge for major trophies in the coming seasons.
