Record-setting second-highest cost for purchasing a Running Back:

Manchester United has announced the signing of young striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a transfer that could potentially cost the English club around €85 million (approximately $98.8 million).

The 19-year-old Slovenian forward joined RB Leipzig from RB Salzburg in 2023 and has since proven to be a valuable asset, scoring 27 goals in 64 Bundesliga games and assisting in seven others. His impressive performances have earned him comparisons to striker sensation Erling Haaland.

The initial guaranteed fee for Sesko is approximately €76.5 million (~$89 million), with additional bonuses potentially adding an extra €8.5 million, bringing the total closer to €85 million, or about $98.8 million. The deal reportedly includes a sell-on clause for Leipzig and a future friendly match arrangement between the two clubs.

The transfer fee is significantly higher than what RB Leipzig paid for Sesko from RB Salzburg in 2023, making it the second most expensive sale by the German club. Josko Gvardiol, a defender previously sold by RB Leipzig to Manchester City for 91.5 million euros, remains the most expensive sale.

The bidding war between Manchester United and another Premier League club, Newcastle United, is believed to have driven up the purchase price for Sesko. Newcastle United, who will play internationally next season, including in the Champions League, also expressed interest in the promising young striker.

RB Leipzig's sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, stated that economic conditions played a role in the transfer, emphasising the club's commitment to financial sustainability.

With Sesko now a player of Manchester United in the Premier League, the club aims to strengthen its attack and challenge for top honours. The young striker is expected to provide a fresh and dynamic approach to the team, offering a promising future for Manchester United fans.
