Baden-Württemberg Breaks Tourism Records with 44.6 Million Overnight Stays

It's a new milestone for Baden-Württemberg's tourism industry! With an impressive 44.6 million overnight stays recorded between January and September 2023, the region has surpassed its previous record of 44.2 million overnight stays set in 2019. The State Statistical Office in Stuttgart announced this astonishing figure on a bustling Tuesday.

While the number of guests at hotels, guesthouses, and other similar establishments has slightly decreased compared to 2019 (17.6 million versus 17.8 million), the overall number of overnight stays has significantly increased by 4.7 million (11.7%). This growth is attributed to the systematic evaluation of accommodation establishments with ten or more beds or pitches.

The surge in tourism in Baden-Württemberg is plain to see, with the records shattering in multiple regions. In fact, the Stuttgart region witnessed a whopping 20.9% increase in overnight stays, while northern Baden-Württemberg boasts a 17.5% boost. Tourism hotspots, such as the Federal Garden Show in Mannheim, have surely played a major role in these extraordinary numbers.

Digging deeper into Germany's tourism trends, a 1.9% increase in overall overnight stays was recorded in 2024, bringing the total to 496.1 million. Meanwhile, camping lovers can rejoice, as the number of overnight stays at German campsites shot up by almost 20% in 2024, surpassing the 42.9 million mark.

While the specific records for Baden-Württemberg remain elusive, it's clear that the region is thriving in the tourism realm with record-breaking numbers. Known for its incredible landscapes, rich history, and renowned hospitality, Baden-Württemberg has become a top destination for both domestic and international travelers.
